Thought to Ponder!

Gandhi Research Foundation

Our prayers go out for all victims of hate, prejudice, untruths, lies, discrimination, bigotry, violence (natural, man made or of any other form), greed, exploitation, injustices, oppression, that we know of or not aware of, either big or small!

We also pray that please make us mentally strong that we never resort to such means for our ends and goals!

Summer Youth Program

Summer Youth Program

On Monday, July 16th, 2012, Mahatma Gandhi Library was given the opportunity to participate in the Summer Youth Program at India House. The lead teacher, Ms Saide, explains this program is for students ages 8-14 where their highest goals include character development as well as cultural studies including India.

MGL was represented by Atul Kothari, Deepak Bhatt, and Manish Wani. Manishbhai explained to the kids regarding the life and times of Mahatma Gandhi, Deepakbhai gave vignettes regarding his values of peace, truth and non-violence, and Atulbhai challenged the kids with a word search and applying Gandhiji's principles in today's times and atmosphere. The students took great interest in learning about Mahatma Gandhi. They also enthusiastically participated in the Poster contest in hopes of winning a prize and getting on stage at Miller Outdoor Theater for 1000 Lights for Peace on Sunday, October 7th, 2012 at Gandhi Jayanti celebrations.

International Festival of Houston

42nd Houston International Festival of Houston was celebrated on Apr 22-23 and 28-29. Mahatma Gandhi Library was given an opportunity to host a booth in the Kids Zone. The area around it was bustling due to many interesting activities going on in a small space. On the backside we had two music stages and in front of us , we had kids playing in the inflatables. After a slow start and some adjustments to increase the visibility of the booth, we attracted a steady stream of curious little visitors and their parents. Many children participated in Coloring and Poster contests. Lots of kids enjoyed the Gandhi's 3 monkey tattoos. Thanks to all the volunteers, the booth turned out to be good for the library. We could reach out to many new visitors. Hope some of them thought about the Gandhian principles of peace, love and non-violence.
