City Wide Creative Speech Contest

A project to create a higher awareness of the inspiring life and work of Mahatma Gandhi to promote universal values of Truth, Non-Violence, Love and Service.

The contest is open to all children in the greater Houston area and is part of the weeklong, city- wide celebration of Mahatma Gandhi Week culminating on October 5, 2008 as “1000 Lights For Peace”.

Date: Saturday, October 4, 2008

Place: Arya Samaj Greater Houston
Located at: 14375 Schiller Road, Houston

In a maximum of 3 minutes present a talk on:

Age 11 and up “A Person is a Product of His Thoughts”

Age 10 and below “Non-Violence is a Weapon of the Strong”

Awards Age 11 and Up Age 10 and below
Winner $ 300 Gift Certificate $ 150 Gift Certificate 3rd Place
2nd Place $ 200 Gift Certificate $ 100 Gift Certificate
3rd Place $ 150 Gift Certificate $ 75 Gift Certificate

The talks will be judged on content, presentation style and delivery by a panel of judges. Winners will also present their talk at the annual “1000 Lights for Peace” celebration. Entries must be received by 5 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2008.
