Shraddhanjali (Memorial Service) to Mahatma Gandhi
Mahatma Gandhi Library in collaboration with a number of organizations such as ICC, India House, Gujarati Sahitya Sarita, Unity Peacemakers and many other organizations commemorated the 1st ever Shraddhanjali to Mahatma Gandhi on Saturday, January 31, 2009. Gandhi ji was assassinated 61 years ago on January 30, 1948.
The commemoration began at 10 AM at Gandhi Statue in Hermann Park. The Consul General of India Shri Sanjiv Arora put garland on Gandhi ji's statue. It was followed by description of last day of Mahatma Gandhi by Dr. Sulekh Jain. The people gathered then sang the dhun Raghupati Raghav Raja ram and departed. The program at India House started at 11 AM and consisted of Poems, Bhajans, Devotional songs, Wisdom of Gandhi classes. The highlight of the program was moving tribute paid by Consul General of India Shri Sanjiv Arora. He described how he considers his efforts in unanimous adoption of resolution by UN to observe Mahatma Gandhi's birthday, October 2nd, as the day of Non-Violence to be highlight of his career.
